This years Chillies

I love growing chillies, they truly are beautiful plants to grow. To me they're just as pretty as growing flowers.

This year I had a nice selection, left to right - Korean Gochugaru (for making kimchi in the future), Bulgarian carrot, Lemon drop, Chinese Chaotian, Cayenne purple, Alberto's Locoto.

The Alberto's Locoto is another level, I don't think I've come across a chilli that is so hot! I could feel it making my fingers tingle as I prepared it! It is a beautiful plant though and I kept one to over winter in our bedroom.

I dried all the chillies for storage.

The Korean ones I plant to powder up and make my own kimchi, The rest might be powdered or added whole to curries and the like, I'm slowly building the children's tolerance to the heat levels.

Always a good use of space in the greenhouse, they always do better than the sweet peppers for me, that's one area I really need to work on in my growing.

How has everyone else done with chillies this year?

  1. This year was my first year of growing chillies. They are very easy to grow and require very little watering. We still have some in the fridge. Only me will eat the hot ones!

  2. I don't like chillies, but I do grow sweet peppers, I have a plant thriving in my unheated greenhouse, I keep it in a plastic greenhouse sat in the middle of my glass house, it works so well.

    1. What variety do you grow? I struggle with sweet peppers and getting them to ripen.
