The polytunnel has been a constant source of shame for me over the winter. Full of dead plants and a thick green slime on the plastic.
I was desperate to get it back into tip top form this year, it's such an amazing space for growing I really need to be making the most of it.
So I've been trying to tackle it in spare moments when I could. Not that many spare moments make themselves known however... It's taken a bit of elbow grease and occasional help from my children (well two of them) when it came to cleaning the plastic.I honestly can't quite believe the difference in light levels. I had a good excuse for not doing it last year, but I'll make sure we do it every year from here on in!
I made a fun video about the clean up, it shows just how tenacious my 10 year old daughter is, she gave herself blisters helping me clean the plastic.
So now it's cleaned up and nearly ready to go. It's still too wet to bring any muck in there, but I have set up a few benches for my seedlings and the whole area just feels so much better.
Hopefully I'll have my new greenhouse up soon and before I know it I'll be putting tomatoes in the ground!
Watch the video and let me know what you think.
How often do you clean the plastic on your polytunnel or the glass on your greenhouse?
I have yet to clean the glass on my greenhouse but they are more like windows to a house. I think them being vertical also helps to keep them clean.
ReplyDeleteI have done the greenhouse well this year, I had so much moss growing between the aluminium and glass it made it leak everywhere, so I scrapped it out and suddenly it's no longer dripping all the time!
DeleteExcellent video. We were erecting our little 6’ x 4’ greenhouse last year so this Spring is the first time some seedlings are in it. Only toms, chillies and one sad aubergine.
ReplyDeleteI had one that size at my first house. I loved it, crammed full of different things. My aubergines are looking sad this year as well! Not sure what I've done wrong to them!
DeleteMy glass greenhouse is in dire need of cleaning.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I did my greenhouse as well. I forgot how light it can be in there!
