With a deadline due for a magazine article I was desperate to carve something interesting. I found inspiration at Worcester Cathedral after a visit with my family and some friends.
So I dragged out a piece of lime from my store and set to carving it up.

As I tend to do these days, I made a video.
No doubt it won't get many views, carving videos are a bit niche, but it was fun to make the video at the same time, gives me someone to talk to if nothing else!
I was quite pleased with the piece when it was finished.
It took quite a few hours to make because of the size of it, but because of the size some of it was quite good fun. I could go with big sharp gouges and remove loads of wood with each sweep.
Now I just need to decide if I'm going t use it as a draw front in the pantry or not!
What do you think? Do you like it? What would you use it for (it's about 1m by 285mm)?
Wow Kev, that would look super as a front panel to a Camphor/wooden blanket box. Think it would look lovely in a screen too (but would have to work some more for that)xx
ReplyDeleteGreat piece of work but possibly not for a pantry where the edges will trap dust, spilled flour etc. and drive the 'housekeeper' nuts. The drawer front for the TV remote controls perhaps...

ReplyDeleteAs a mostly furniture maker, I could see a panel like that being used in dozens of different ways. Box lids, drawer fronts, wall hanging, decorate elements on larger pieces, etc. I also think that things utilizing such obviously hand made works bring a premium over their factory manufactured flawless counterparts.
