Making A Temporary Path - No More Muddy Feet!

I don't have much of a commute to work each day, normally it's just a stroll form the house to the workshop. But that stroll is quite muddy this time of year.

It's a silly thing but it gets me down a little bit, I tread mud into the workshop and into the house. But the other day I got given a god number of slabs, and I had some sharp sand and stone that was past it's best for proper building projects - Time for a temporary path!

Of course if you're going to do a job like this then it's always handy to have a bit of machinery to help - the digger and dumper sure do make the job faster.

It's a quick job but I'm already enjoying my walk to work a lot more!

Watch the video above and let me know what you think. Hopefully it's a really fun one.

Anyone else done a temporary job lately that makes them smile every time they use it?

  1. Well done Kev, it looks just great and will save you a lot of bother. I have a feeling it will remain 'temporary' for several years though....I did a similar thing for my mum's patio hundreds of years ago, I didn't really know what I was doing but thought 'well, how hard can it be?' so I just raked the underneath soil as flat as I could, stamped all over it and laid the slabs on top. I have to say, it looked very professional and is still there now and none of the slabs have moved in 35 years!

    1. I think you're right, this will be about for a fair bit! Sometimes the jobs we do the fastest last the longest!

  2. Even if it only lasts a year, it was worth doing. Love the "just get it done" attitude.

  3. I’ve been hoping to build a bigger shop for decades but I always improve my current shop space instead. If that path had been mine, it might very well end up a permanent fix!

  4. Great solution! Nicely done. It solves your muddy shoes problem tracking grit in to the shop and house.

  5. Kev, looks great and fills the need (also as a note, I love hearing you describe different items using British English. Sometimes it is a hunt for me to realize what you are talking about).

I have also found it remarkable how as I have grown older, the more I understand my father and some of the things that bothered him.

    1. Yeah I get dad a lot more now than I did 15 years ago!
I'm interested which words are different now. To be honest where I grew up even my wife thinks I use different words!
