A friend asked me to build his mum a potting bench. He is a another carpenter like me, but is absolutely snowed under with work at the moment.
I thought it very much fitted with my "brand" and decided with would make a great magazine article. I also decided to film it.
I'm really pleased with how this turned out. I used redwood (pine) for the construction of it. planning the timber down from rough sawn. It's given it a lovely look, especially as I chamfered the corners off every piece.
The galvanised top really finishes it well (although fine without as well) and the crossed back brace is a nice touch I think.
Making the video took me three complete evenings and hours of footage and it doesn't even have a hundred views! Funny how the videos either take or they don't!

What do you think? Would you be happy with this in your greenhouse or shed?
Also if you watch the video then leave me a comment on YouTube - it'll help others find it!
It would make a super Christmas present for any gardener.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right there. Hopefully something a bit special.
Deleteevery gardener should have one pf these!
ReplyDeleteAh Thanks!
DeleteI watch your YouTube videos on my television so don't have a way to comment there but always enjoy them. I can't imagine trying to film every aspect of a project I'm working on. I have no doubt that it takes you a lot of time to do so and then edit it all into something palatable to watch, which it was.
ReplyDeleteI've had various incarnations of potting benches over the years. They were always in the garage though and became a catchall for everything, usually not related to gardening. I finally had enough and built an entire separate greenhouse with built in benches along both sides. Life has been much better in my garage ever since.
The filming slows everything down to a crawl at times!
DeleteI've made so many potting benches, I should try to find pictures of them all and do a post on it at some point!
For some reason I'm having terrible trouble signing in to make a comment, (and I suspect other people are as well) but I've got there now hopefully. The bench is beautiful and I'm sure it will go on many a christmas list!
ReplyDeleteAh that's annoying. I try to make it easy by leaving it so they automatically comment for the first two weeks, then I have to approve it (you wouldn't believe how many thousand spam comments there are each year!)
DeleteGosh I want one of these!!
