Patio Renovation - Part 1 - Clean Up

So the patio has become a bit of a dumping ground the last year. Every grout joint has started to grow pretty much every weed you can think of, the children have dumped every toy and made "potions" that have leaked clay and mud all over the floor.

So I decided it was time for a big clean up, wash out the grout and try to get it ready for all the outside eating we want to do this summer. Watch the video above to see the first part of this.

What would you repoint it with?

How much time do you spend doing maintenance on things like this?

  1. Just one question, what type of soil do you have, planting your tress, it looked brilliant soil, we are on heavy clay here.

    1. We have really good top soil with clay under it. It's pretty good and very easily improved.

  2. Wow, that was a heck of a job wasn't it! I shall look forward to part 2. One question, why did you do away with the kitchen window?

    1. I think that question is worthy of another video!

  3. I've always used a polymeric sand for that. It helps keep all the stones in place, easy to apply but turns hard after the application of water, and keeps the weeds out... at least for awhile. With time and more dirt and seed blowing in, they always come back.

  4. You can buy patio grouting mixes in a tub or you could make a really strong dry sand and cement mix like 3 to 1 and brush it in the cracks. We've just made a recycled patio. Will post a picture of it soon.

    1. Yeah I thin I might buy something premade to put back in. Looking forward to seeing what you've done with yours.
