The last few weeks I've been working really hard to increase my stock levels of all the items I sell (as well as the more unusual one off items I sometimes make and sell).
I'm trying to make sure I have a full range of products out there, including different sizes and types of tool boxes, 3 different wire bottomed baskets and potting trays in 5 different sizes.
There are a few items that I end up making a lot less on, but I enjoy making and think they're a quality product. They also help to complete the range of items I make. I'm trying to see myself more as a "brand" than a small manufacturer.
One of those is my seed boxes, I do these in two sizes and sometimes in reclaimed materials as well as the carved fronts. I'm currently making a batch with the carved fronts to them, all the carving is done by hand. This helps me be a better craftsman and also has a lovely handmade feel to it.
What item would you like to see me make and stock in my shop?
Smaller items, dibber or a bulb planter.
ReplyDeletePostage is what has stopped me on the smaller items, because it ends up being so much of the cost. Although I think you're right, dibbers would probably sell well. Maybe as add on items.
DeleteWhat about making an old fashioned gardeners wooden wheelbarrow that could be used for work or a planter full of flowers?
ReplyDeleteYou know I have a wooden wheelbarrow planned as a future project! I'd like to go proper old school and do it all right if I could.
DeleteI don't know about your side of the pond but over here on this side, there is a huge market for wooden crates, especially those with lettering of companies or products that invoke memories of childhood. I am constantly amazed at what they go for at auctions.
ReplyDeleteYeah, wooden boxes and crates would probably be a good one. I'd love to get or make some big stencil to mark the sides of them. I have my own brand but nothing else yet.
DeleteKev, not sure what would specifically fit into this category, but the general sort of thing that would be useful in a garden and is either manual or human powered.
ReplyDeleteYeah, has to be human powered I think. I tend to go down the storage route as think wood works well for that.
