It was our annual seed swap on Saturday and it was as brilliant as ever (I'll do a post on it later in the week), one thing it did was get me really fired up for this years growing!
I was so fired up I even stopped on the way home and got some compost. I decided that with Sunday being quite warm and sunny for a February day it was ideal to sow a few things and get started. And I decided to up the geekiness level of it and film myself doing it!
It's very easy this time of year to get carried away, so I'm trying to hold back. Watch the video above to see me talking about what I'm going to plant, but if you don't have time for that I put in beans, peas, chillies and aubergines, and holding off on my tomatoes for a bit longer yet!
Who else has started planting?
And who else is still looking at snow on the ground and is a little annoyed I can even do this much?
We can't start planting because we are still breaking in a neglected plot and trying to get out as much bindweed and cooch as we can first (which is being slowed by the stickiness of the mud). Sunday was a great day though and we made good progress. We got loads of mulch down on what will be the corn and squash beds.
I only grow tomatoes and cucumbers so it's too early for me, but I'm itching to get in the garden, but it's still to early to cut back all last years growth.

ReplyDeleteSounds like your new growing area will be really productive though!

ReplyDeleteYeah I haven't really cut much back, I need to get some beds sorted though! Won't be long now.
DeleteOnions sets planted in plastic modules in polytunnel and garlic planted outdoors. Veg plot dug over and ready to go.
ReplyDeleteI need to buy some sets, have shallots and garlic in already but want my onions as well!
