Making A Tool Handle With A 7 Year Old

So my lad has been keen to make his V-Tool ever since he got the kit I made him for his birthday

So last weekend we started to make it. Drilling out the blank for the handle then getting it on the lathe.

He really has a good natural ability on this, moving it back and forth with easy and reducing the wood down.

I only had to help him with the final cuts, then he made the groves all by himself to decorate it.

When we had assembled it he gave it a coat of linseed oil to protect it.

A lovely way to spend a bit of time my son. Just need to sharpen it now!

  2. The gift of time together making this is far superior than anything purchased in a shop. He's a clever lad and has skill.

    1. He does, he's so pleased with himself. I think he'll be mastering this soon.

    1. Yes, he's very good at not rushing things, and good if I say we have to come back to something he knows to wait.
