So my lad has been keen to make his V-Tool ever since he got the kit I made him for his birthday.
So last weekend we started to make it. Drilling out the blank for the handle then getting it on the lathe.
He really has a good natural ability on this, moving it back and forth with easy and reducing the wood down.
I only had to help him with the final cuts, then he made the groves all by himself to decorate it.
When we had assembled it he gave it a coat of linseed oil to protect it.
A lovely way to spend a bit of time my son. Just need to sharpen it now!
That looks brilliant. We done seven year old! (And Dad)
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was a fun little session!
DeleteThe gift of time together making this is far superior than anything purchased in a shop. He's a clever lad and has skill.
ReplyDeleteHe does, he's so pleased with himself. I think he'll be mastering this soon.
DeleteJust love watching your children learning new skills. You should be very proud of this young lad.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am!
DeleteAmazing! Just seven years old?? The manual dexterity he already has. And patience!
ReplyDeleteYes, he's very good at not rushing things, and good if I say we have to come back to something he knows to wait.
