Fitting Worktops

I feel very lucky that in my life I often blur the lines between work and pleasure. On the whole I enjoy what I do.

It never stretches as far fitting kitchens though! Not because it's particularly hard, more because nothing ever goes right. I dread to think how many kitchens I've fitted over the years, some very grand, some not, but I'm fairly sure I have never fitted one where everything was supplied correctly, except the two I build from scratch (our own and my brothers).

But I still have to do this work, it brings in money and keeps my skills sharp, especially the problem solving side of it. This week two friends had been fitting a kitchen for a rental property, and they needed my "expertise" to fit the worktops as neither wanted to commit themselves to that!

Luckily there was no corners to cut (I hate doing the corners) and the day ran fairly smoothly, except when we went to get the second length of worktop out and we realised they'd given us two different types!

We got it changed though, just a bit of extra hassle.

The job got done, worktops in and fitted, ready to leave them to finish the kitchen up (fit doors and work with the moany electrician).

Anyone else get called in for the worst bits of jobs?

  2. Can you assemble flat packs Kev? You should advertise your carpentry services.

    1. when I was an apprentice all the kitchens we fitted would come flatpack. It was always my job to put the units together.
Not short of work, I only really do this sort of carpentry now for a few customers, I prefer to be in the workshop as it works better around the children.
