The Polytunnel is Clear of Ducks!

The polytunnel is clear of ducks! This makes me so happy!

I swear there is no chance they are going in there this winter should their be another lockdown. Their new pen (in another post) will be their permeant home.

So this is the fun bit now. I get to start making it ready to plant. I need to find the paths again then alter them so it's a wide path down the middle and just two beds either side.

Then I need to decide what I'm going to plant. I'm thinking lots of tomatoes and cucumbers. Then some crops for seed saving, so a batch of broad beans (Gloster bounty) and maybe a small patch of grain.

For the winter I want to be ready to have winter salad crops to go in as well as other winter greens, maybe even some kale as the rest of the plot lies so wet it sometimes struggles.

What would you sown in this area? What are your favourite undercover crops to grow? What would you grow through winter and when would you start it?

  2. considering the amount of duck poop in there, anything you plant should soar!

    1. That's always the Downside. Hopefully by having them in there they flower earlier so I can have the door open and not worry too much about crossing.

  4. Any crop that likes plenty of nitrogen will do really well after the ducks.

  5. I'm going to bet that after you see how super productive that soil is following the ducks, you might reconsider the trouble they caused you! Cheers

    1. It's not so much the trouble but the lack of winter salads need to try better with my undercover spaces and make the most of them year round if I can.
