More Apple Tree Pruning

At mum and dads this time, on the orchard I planted over 20 years ago. Some of these trees are a bit younger though.

To keep it simple I've just done before and after shots showing how I try to open up the tree in the middle to keep that goblet shape.

Created a lot of brash to tidy up later!

Always a job I enjoy once I get going with it.

  1. I don't have fruit trees, but after watching Monty in Japan a few years ago, I opened up my acer, best thing I ever did the tree was stunning that year, so every other year I open it up, it's due this year.

    1. It all depends on what shape we want them for. I do love a good acer, beautiful trees.

  2. Kev, I have zero knowledge of fruit tree pruning, but they certainly do look more clean!

    1. Every year I learn a little more. The key is not to be afraid to take the saw to them!
