I sometimes moan about the fact that we're on a north facing slope, in a wet little dip.
But when a storm rolls in I'm thankful that we're tucked down out the way.
Taking a walk around after the winds had settled I was pleased there was no damage. The only thing was one of the tarps blown off a chicken pen - but it was a cheaper tarp than I normally use.
So I put the old one back on and added a new one over the top. Should act a bit like insulation like that!
How did everyone else fair through the storm? Any damage?
Just a few fence panels, we will have to pay to replace as our neighbour won't pay. The hardest part is getting her to agree we can do the work.
ReplyDeleteAh that's not fun - We're so lucky that we get on with ours so well.
DeleteHi Kev.our house faces SSW down a valley, but the tree cover breaks the force. However our 3 polytunnels are a bit higher up and get more wind, one that has steel wires built in to its structure, is completely shredded,a couple of the wires snapped, some just left the tube of reinforced plastic around the wire. Expensive cover to replace.
ReplyDeleteThe lowest tunnel, had the roof ventblown inside, the third one had the door handle broken.
The big barn however !!! the previus storm tore of one end and part of the roof, this storm ,since the wind was from a different direction, tried to do the same. Saturday saw us putting ropes round the rafters and hanging on to prevent the roof taking off. Yesterday some rough repairs took place, So far today its holding.
Now we are looking for some replacement roofing sheets. Think a lot of these have been on for 40 years or more.
Guess I will be replanting some seeds.
Kathy
Oh No! That does sound some damage, must be horrible walking around it the next day. I'm never sure in a big storm to have the doors shut or open on a polytunnel. I went and helped my 80 year old neigbour put some extra fixings in his roof as he was going up there himself and has no cartildge in his knees!
DeleteI need a new polytunnel cover and there is another storm forecast for today. Living in the countryside next to the sea isn't always good when it is gale season.
ReplyDeleteI bet it blows at yours at time! We are really protected here I think, the hills help. The wet here makes it hard, the bottom field is a big lake at the moment.
DeleteHey Kev, could you tell me where you are buying your heirloom seeds please
ReplyDeleteI buy from a few places - Real Seeds, Chilton Seeds, Tamar Organics. But also from the heritage seed library and lots from seed swaps.
Deletethanks!
