Creative writing

Not sure what has happened but it seems like time has been sped up at the moment!

I think I might be neglecting the blog a bit at the moment - I will try harder!

I like to find some time to write nearly every day and I'm still managing to do that, but I've been doing more magazine articles (which is great as it does mean some income) and I've been doing a creative writing course via zoom once a week, rather than blogging I guess.

This course is for fiction writing, although I'm sure it will improve my non fiction writing as well, and I've been really enjoying writing some, to the point where it's all I want to be doing at the moment! I've written a few short stories and had some really good feedback so far, really makes me want to carry on and try my hand at some longer stories.

It's nice to branch my hobby of writing into something fun and creative like this. I've always wanted to do it but somehow never got very far with anything.

I'm tempted to post some of my creative fiction writing on here or find somewhere to post it where people might read it. Of course I get imposter syndrome and worry about it though, and my favourite genres might not tie to my lifestyle here.

Anyone else like to write? Probably a silly question to put to bloggers as I'm sure everyone enjoys it that does it for a hobby!

  1. I'm a published author Kev and I think blogging is another branch of writing. Look forward to reading your writing,

  2. Other interests wax and wane, but writing has been a constant in my life. Interesting that you are having a go at non-fiction. I've found that quite hard to do, but writing about one's own experiences, much easier. Since we retired, I've done more writing than I ever did before, and can usually answer the 'muse' whenever it strikes. I am now, very curious about your "favourite genre"!!??

    1. I've been keen on writing for about 15 years now and although there are certainly times of the year I do less of it, it's something I really enjoy.
My favourite genres are things like sci fi but also "grim dark" fantasy. I also love travel and autobiographical books.

  3. Kev, good for you! I often think of trying my hand at fiction, but so far have done little more than dabble. What I found interesting is that it has a creative flow to it, whereas non-fiction seems to require a lot of think time.

Maybe you could set up a separate blog to share your fiction, if you'd like to keep this blog on topic? Homestead non-fiction writers I know use pseudonyms for their fiction, to further help keep the topics distinguishable to readers. At least, I think that's how I'll approach it when I get to that point.

    1. You should so do it - you'd be great and already have so much writing experience! I quite enjoy the world building bit of it, building a picture with words then being able to alter it easily, making a story around it.
I have thought of a sperate blog for it but worry blogs seem to be dying off a bit at the moment!

  4. Yes, blogging is writing. I've been blogging about 7 years now, and would say it has helped my writing improve a lot during that time. I now do one repost per month, taking the opportunity to revise and edit, and often spot things in the original posts I wouldn't let pass now.
