Hellen's Garden Festival 2021

We look forward to this weekend every year since we first went in 2016.

They asked me to do a talk again this year and luckily for me it was at 12 O'clock which meant that it was out of the way early on and I could then just relax and enjoy my day once it was over. When I'm doing lots of garden club talks I don't get nervous, but it's been well over a year since my last one.

I was so pleased as my talk on "Preserving The Harvest" was really well received and well attended - in fact I was really surprised by how many turned up! I always have a fear of speaking to no one! I was flattered as a number of people told me afterwards how I should write a book (something I'd love to do) and it made me look forward to getting back out to garden clubs and start doing my talks again.

The day itself was just lovely, as always. The children are big enough now so they don't have to be at our sides the whole time (and could find shade while we queued for food) and loved all the things that were there for them to do and look round.

Although I normally take dozens of pictures everyday I always forget to take many here! I think I spent too much time catching up with old friends and making some new ones. It's lovely as lots of friends from the village go, lots from where I grew up as well and lots of people who are very much into the same type of lifestyle choices.

I'm so pleased for the team at Hellens that the festival had perfect weather and sold out both days! Especially after last years had to be cancelled, they put so much effort in and it is so well organised, it runs like clock work and I know they put in so much effort to make it happen like that!

  1. What a lovely post, Kev! Love the precious photo of you and your family. It's heartening to see how interested folks were in your talk. You have a lot of good information to share, so it's nice to see this as another success.

  4. Wish I could have been there. It has been so long since we have gathered together in an event like this. Looks like you had a nice crowd.

    1. Yeah, it was just right, they had limited numbers so it never felt like there was too many people and lots of safety measures in place.

    1. Thanks you! I'm all about shameless self promotion! I've also got an article in woodcarving magazine next month as well! And my regular one in country smallholding. Trying to practice writing enough to write a book! Something you should do actually as your comments in the past have fascinated me. I'd love to see your place!
Trying to carve something every week this year to keep my skill level up!
