String Bean

Well I figured out why this French bean is called Kentucky wonder...

I wonder why anyone grows as it's so stringy... tastes good but not worth this effort when there's stringless ones about.

  1. I can recommend Lady Diana runner bean, stringless and lovely.

    1. I'm growing a Meesha runner and seems stringless. Almost don't mind it as much with the runners as they're such a bigger bean!

  2. Yep. I quit the Kentucky years ago. Now all I plant are Blue Lake - stringless and a big bean-y taste.

    1. Someone on Facebook mentioned Blue lake to me - might have to find them out.

    2. Yeah, I left a comment about Blue Lake earlier in the year. My crop is coming great now... lots in the freezer.

    3. I'll have to get the seeds for next year. Are they a blue bean? I figure even if they don't keep their colour they will be easier to spot and pick!

  3. I have switched to tiny french beans. So much better.

  5. I completely agree. I love the Tenderettes and the Royal Burgundy beans. Where I live, almost everyone else grows a type of bean called half-runners. They are prolific but have to be stringed. I don't like that, or the taste of those beans.

    1. Are they a cross between runners and french? I've seen those advertised.

  6. Yes, Lady Di are good runners, but still one or two have strings, I like Lazy housewife(round white seeds) always seem stringless and good flavour or cobrs for earlier ones.
