A few weekends ago I finally got round to putting the porch up that I've made for my brothers new house.
I'd made the truss up a few months ago so it was great to get it up and into place.
The oak it's made from is some my brother cut down a few years ago when he was working as a tree surgeon. It was an old oak tree that unfortunately needed removing from the secondary school we went to. Funny to think we probably sat in it's shade as children and now the porch will keep the sun and rain off my brothers family (when it's finished). I should add that they planted another tree in it;s place.
Using the forklift meant that we could lift the truss on ready assembled! Much easier than lifting it all up there by hand!
The porch is chunky and it sit well on the front of the house, softening the look of the brickwork.
It still needs to be felt, battened and tiled but in the meantime we've covered it in some plastic.
Next job is fitting the kitchen in there that I've started making!
You really are clever, very nice work.

Deletethat is just fantastic! you are so very talented!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThe things you build with wood are always amazing - you'll never be short of work I'm sure of that
ReplyDeleteThank you! I seem to be in a nice place at the moment where I have a bit of choice about what I take on.
DeleteThat is beautiful! I really dislike flimsy construction and yours is heck for stout and so sturdy and pleasing in proportions. Can't wait to see it totally finished.
ReplyDeleteYeah this is solid! Chunky timbers and clean lines! I'm not putting the roof tiles on so I'm looking forward to see it finished as well.
