Today is world book day and there has become a tradition across schools where the children dress as their favourite character or person from a book they love.
I think our girls saw this as a challenge. No one would be guessing who they were! They decided who they were going to be with no input from us! We might have gone with people a little more mainstream.
My daughter on the left is dressed as Artemisia Gentileschi who was a 17th century painter who was successful at a time when it was hard for female painters and was the first female artist who supported herself through her painting.
My daughter on the right is Gloria Steinem (complete with "women needs a man, like a fish needs a bicycle" badge) who is a activist and feminist.
Both of these they have learned about through reading the Rebel Girls books, which our girls have absolutely fallen in love with. They love having their mum read these short bios about woman who have changed the world for the better as their bedtime stories. I dread to think how many times we've had to read these books!
Who would you dress as for world book day?
Very original! Great job - both..
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteLove them both! I'm not sure who I'd go as...that will take some thought.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure either. Maybe something from Discworld would be fun.
DeleteThey both look fab. I think I'd quite like to go as Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice but not sure Gloria Steinem would approve!
ReplyDeleteOh Kev, I literally started laughing out loud by the time I got to the Gloria Steinem part. Your little ladies are a force to be reckoned with. Watch out world!
ReplyDeleteAnd me.. Richard Brautigan and Trout Fishing In America. That's who I would go as.
