Quick Kitchen Tour

Short video of our new kitchen I've been building from scratch over the last few months.

Not quite finished but it's nearly there.

Can't quite see how we coped with the old tiny one now!

  2. I'm with the girls - I love it. You have really thought out use of space, which is wonderful! We don't always get that in the US with out cabinet makers - they have to be nudged a bit. The small cabinet behind the rounded corner is the very best! Will you put overheads in our shelves? I'm adding a cabinet of drawers (I love them too for pots and pans) to my kitchen - just wall space before - and have asked him to put in shelves over for my things I like to display. Great job Kev!!!

    1. Thanks for your comment. Not planning on having overhead cupboards wanted to keep the space open and light. I think we'd only store more stuff we don't use. Once we have the walk in pantry I think we'll have loads of storage space, hopefully!

  3. It looks wonderful, miles and miles of counter surface.

I'm curious about the lack of upper cabinets. Will you make some later, or do you prefer it the way it is?

    1. The counter space where the bread machine is was all we had before in the old kitchen! Not planning on any over head units. want to keep it open for now but we'll see how we do with space. Makes it feel so light without any.

  4. I think it's absolutely fantastic, i'm very envious! Excellent work Kev, your family must be so proud of you, and aren't the girls just gorgeous! Oh, do be careful with that induction hob, I managed to accidentally drop a not very heavy metal measuring cup on mine and smashed it...oops, £300 worth... I now keep a wooden cover on it when it's not in use, just in case! Other than that, like you I love it, so easy to use and clean.

  6. Kev, it's wonderful! Beautiful and very well planned out. I know what you mean about wondering how you got on with the old. This kitchen was well worth the wait.

    1. Thanks Leigh, I'm still undecided about the oak, but we'll see how it holds up to our lack of care!

    1. It's great to put all the plates out at one time and dish them all up together. Before I had to do a plate at a time and it took ages!

    1. Yeah, can't wait to build my walk in pantry, going to be lots of clever storage in there when I build it! Be a great space for all the food i grow and preserve as well.

  11. You are such a talented craftsman! I know you must have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the kitchen but do you know how much money you saved by being able to do it yourself? Very few people have your kind of talent. All of it is especially wonderful since you were able to design it just exactly as you wanted it. You should be very proud.

    1. Thank you. Yeah there's no way we could afford a kitchen or house like this if I wasn't doing it myself. Its great in that way as it means I can do it now I want. There are so many little bits of space that I make things to fit.

  12. Love, love, love the kitchen Kev, especially the looooong stretch of counter top. I'm curious about your corner cupboard. Is there any access from the back? I have a U shaped cupboard configuration therefore two corner cupboards. Even though I have hinged doors I still find it hard to get to the back of the cupboard. I really wish I'd put in access from the back as well. What are your thoughts?

    1. Thank you! Having the long stretch of worktop is great, mean all the plates can go down at once when I wish up, before it was like a juggling act when I was trying to plate food.
Its funny you should mention the corner cupboard. We had two before and they were always a pain, this is no exception. I had brought one of those clever pull out racks to fit in there, but the company I brought it from got funny with me and two days after sending it asked for it back (it was over 200 pounds) so I sent it back and decided I'd just put a few of my larger saucepan I don't use very often there. No ideal but even with the pull out racks there it isn't a great space. I might make something for it one day that means I get access somehow, a weird shaped drawer or somethings perhaps.

  16. LOL, Get the handles on quick or you will get used to the duct tape and never get it done! Maybe you will see some stylish tape at the market and think, "That would look tons better than the plain tape we have now"!!!!

    1. Yeah, yo be honest I hate handles so might get some material or leather and make these a permanent thing.
