First Day At School Number 2!

So Tuesday it was time for my youngest daughter to start school.
Sisters ready for school
Like when my eldest started, I enjoy sharing milestones with people and friends that have read this blog for years and it's also something I love looking back on.

She was so excited about this and has been ready to start for well over a year now!

We walked to school that first morning (at her request) and I've never seen her walk so tall before as we crossed the fields. She was beaming the whole time and has been at any mention of school for the last few months.
My eldest was also really excited to be going back and seeing all her friends again, they're both social creatures!

When I picked her up that afternoon (she's on half days for a week or so to break them in gently) she took great pleasure in telling me all about it over a huge bacon and egg sandwich which she quickly devoured!

I wasn't in the slightest bit teary, but I was surprised when she asked me to come in with her (she's that confidant that I thought she'd tell me to go). Later when I was telling my wife about it and my daughter just said, without her eyes leaving the TV, "I had so much to carry, It thought it would be easier if dad came in..." Nice to know I'm wanted for something!

With two at school now it's just the boy left, but that won't be for a few years yet!

  2. Glad she had such a good time! I like her practical approach :-)
And I'm envying her her sandwich! It's so nice to see children eating 'proper' food. I work in a preschool (in an educated, affluent area) and I think we're raising a generation who will only eat soft white wafer-thin ham sandwiches (no crusts) or Dairylea Dunkers...

    1. The sandwich was good! She doesn't always eat her crusts I must admit but she is the fussiest out of the three but will eat most things, the trouble is they want snacks all the time so I have to be careful with how many I dish out!

  3. It's so much easier when they are looking forward to starting school, my youngest loved it when she started, all she wanted to do was go to school like her big sister. All too quick it will be your little man's time.

    1. This has gone so fast already! She has been desperate to go so it's lovely now as it's all she's wanted really and so far it's living up to her expectations.

  5. Lovely, and as Hazel said, nice to see her eating proper food...I bet that's homemade bread as well. The little man is going to find it a bit quiet though!

    1. It's not homemade this time but we're lucky to have a baker who lives in the village, but doesn't cook here. instead he supplies the local butcher shop. It's proper bread that he prooves slowly and ti just lovely. Very chewy crusts though ! Little man is going to miss her but he does two days at nursery and I help run a playgroup on a monday so should help keep him busy.

  7. Your children are as cute as buttons. I remember when my first went off to school about 25 years ago. She never looked back. No tears for mom. Of course I walked away in tears but I was also very proud of her streak of curiosity and adventure.

    1. When my first went to school I nearly cried but my younger daughter has been desperate to start for over a year now so she's living her dream at the moment!

  8. Your children are all so well-adjusted that it's no wonder they all look forward to new adventures. School should be a wonderful experience and blessings be to those dear children who have good school years.

When our daughter was a toddler we lived out in the boonies and she and I did everything together: Gardening, baking and cooking, dishes, caring for and playing with the animals, going to town, bike riding the gravel roads, laundry, skiing in the snow, etc. When it came time to start school she was so ready for socialization with other children, and I was so ready for some time to function during the day without my little shadow accompanying every step. It was good for both of us!

    1. I bet you had to catch yourself trying to find her all the time though! It's amazing what I can get done when they're all out the house. My youngest has a couple of days at nursery and I get lots of jobs done then, but he loves it. He's such a social animal!
