Or Recluses dream?
Saw this property for sale and I thought that there be a few of you on here that would love to buy this place if you even won the lottery!
I saw it on Rightmove the other day.
It's your own 2.5 acre island off the welsh coast with a 10 bedroom house, for what I think is a really good price at £550,000.
It's listed and needs a massive amount of work and I'd imagine that it would be tricky to get builders and materials out there costing a lot of money.
It was an old garrison built in the 1800s, to house 100 men but turned into a hotel in the 1930's.
It even has it's own sauna and a garden where you could grow your crops.
What do you think?
The perfect island to escape to with a select group whilst the rest of the world burned?
Or would it be too remote for you and Amazon & Tesco's struggle to deliver would put you off?
Love it, would move today if we could. As for being cut off, bliss!
ReplyDeleteIt would have certain advantages! I'd have to have plenty to do out here and a full workshop with a good stock of timber to work with.
DeleteI could definitely survive without Tesco or Amazon...but the property price is way too expensive for that and I don't think the weather is very inviting out there??...not cozy enough;P Is there any other property you could recommend Kev? :)
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be very cosy! No firewood to burn either! I'll have to have a look for more "prepper properties!" It's good fun!
DeleteIt's too expensive, but I have another question. Is that really possible for human to live remotely? I doubt :)
ReplyDeleteIt's being done all round the world, just look to places like Alaska where people go to live in the wilderness. You still need contact to get more supplies and things though, impossible to be completely self sufficient forever.
DeleteOh, that would be heavenly for me!! A place the deer can't get in and eat my vegetables!
ReplyDeleteI don;t think the veg would grow as well in those conditions though, a bit wind swept I think!
DeleteI live in the countryside next to the sea and it's not nice to live here when it's gale season. I would find Preppers Paradise great for an holiday home to write or tend my vegetables. I think rural or island isolation isn't good for the spirit.
ReplyDeleteI think it's better on paper than living there in person to be honest.
DeleteNice! I could use one of the big rooms to store my guns and ammo!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I could keep the place up though. I have a hard enough time with my buildings up here on the mountain. At least I wouldn't have to worry about forest fires there.
I think water would be the major issue! Keeping it out, I imagine the sea would be very rough at times, I don't think there'd be much sun bathing!
DeleteYou could have a whole armoury there!
I like it, sounds like my kind of place. Imagine the possibilities. Need to hit the lottery first though.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of possibilities but like you said, lottery or some rich relative I've never met would need to be very nice to me!
Deletei might need that place to get away from trump.
ReplyDeleteYou'd have to build a wall round it then!
DeleteCrowd fund it!
ReplyDeleteTempting! I'll get the extension finished first though.
DeleteIt's a good idea though, if you could get 6 rich families interested and to put up the money.
DeleteI was more thinking it would just be for your family...
Deletehave you ever seen the blog cold antler farm? Before she moved to the farm people where donating to her 'dream' on a pay pal button.
You could sell your place as the down payment, and get a commercial mortgage to pay the rest. Then run courses on something. And have the people who come to the courses stay and it would pay for itself. just pulling numbers from the air. 5 months of courses May-September. 6 people on the course, twice a month. Course £200pp. that would make you an even £12k. You would have to pay tax on that. But it would make a good dent into more than paying a mortgage. Then the people could either B&B on the main land or if they stayed with you for 2 nights (2 day course), hmm what would you charge for that... £40? per person? Say half stay with you. that could be another potential £1,200.
Just pulling stuff out of the air there... £550k is a bargain. Around here that wouldnt get you much. Maybe a 2 bed. And in London that is a once bed basement flat.
I know in England you can apply for a grant for Grade listed buildings. I would assume Wales has the same thing.
The initial price is the least of it.
ReplyDeleteTwo words: Property taxes.
We don't have those we have council tax and I don't think it would be that bad, the max it could be in that county would be £1,962 per year.
DeleteI saw it too, but the amount of interior work it needs is huge. And how would you get the men and materials out there?
ReplyDeleteIt would be a costly venture but worth it in the end!
DeleteI think any veggie patch would struggle from sea spray! Gosh, you could read a library of books in total peace though.
ReplyDeleteYou;d have to take the library with you though!
DeleteNo good if you want to nip next door to borrow a cup of sugar !
ReplyDeleteIf you live there you've gotta have a few kg of sugar put by!
DeleteI've always wanted to be a Pirate but I would not be that good at it. I'd feel bad about stealing from people and would later apologize which would completely ruin the whole scary pirate thing. Perhaps a Robber Baron, probably the same problem.
ReplyDeleteA reclusive millionaire wouldn't work either as I'm moderately friendly.
I'm not sure on the local policy on cannons or jousting. But, should I win a billion dollars I will keep it in mind.
