The girls have this habit when they play in the sandpit, they like to go barefoot.
Doesn't matter what time of year or how cold it is, they like to get their feet in the sand.
I've given up trying to fight it and just smile as I see them running across the garden carrying their wellies. Trying to keep them from walking it all round the house is another matter, we make them dunk their feet into a bowl of water before they're aloud in!
Simple childhood pleasures
Dunking feet in water is even colder!!Oh well...children seem to have better blood circulation, making it possible for them to enjoy and have more fun out of the everyday little games:) Wonderful childhood opportunity and memories you're giving them Kev!
ReplyDeleteI remember as a kid I use to run around in barefeet hated wearing shoes, had permanent dirty feet, its great you let the girls go barefooted :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm 58 and still loathe wearing shoes!
ReplyDeleteAs a child and teenager I worried my parents silly because I didn't even want to wear shoes outside on pavements, I was forced into it though!
When I was working, I'd stride into my office in stilettos, and as soon as I closed the door, they were off and under the desk.
Now that I've retired I never wear shoes in the house or on hard surfaces outside and pop a pair of Crocs on to walk on wet grass or mud.
I don't have any of the foot problems that my friends do though, no bunions, no squished toes, I do have arthritis, but I'm sure it would be worse if I wore shoes all the time!
Your girls will let you know if and when they're tired of going barefoot, meanwhile it's great for their foot health, and it saves a lot of wear and tear on shoes!
I love being bare foot! The only problem here is we have what are called goathead, nasty. Those hurt.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you, Kev, for letting them enjoy a simple childhood pleasure like that. And the foot dunking routine at the back door solves the problem of sand tracked into the house. Just like we have to do with a dog! :o]
ReplyDeleteI am itching to get into my sandals, so I know how the girls feel.
