I finished working at eleven last night, laying a large oak floor for a customer. So with a rare morning to myself I decided to do a few jobs around the homestead and have a walk around the fields to clear my head, something I haven't done for a little while in the light!
Making a door this morning in the workshop as a bit of R&R - I'm a weird one. |
Of course this little walk resulted in more work! Two trees down, one on one of my new fences. There is another tree that looks like it's unsafe so I spoke to the neighbours about dropping it when the weather improves just so it's safe. It's only poplar so the wood is not of high value. Luckily neither tree are on land I own just rent but it will still need to be sorted out.
Working again tonight so might be a bleary eyed in the morning but I've got so much work to do before Christmas I'm trying to fit it in wherever I can. Sorry if the blog is a little sporadic again!
touch wood we havent lost any trees so far, at least you will have some logs
ReplyDeleteNot my trees so I won;t get the wood! i did say to the neighbour I'd get rid of them but I haven't really got he time at the moment for that.
DeleteLiving out in the country you can never catch up. You start out to do a task , and on the way you see something else that needs to be done, and you do that, then you start out again..........
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my day exactly.
DeleteI could just walk from job to job at my place and start nothing it feels like! Everywhere I go I see another job or project!
DeleteI burn anything but pine, poplar mixed with some slightly damp wood will keep it burning, it seems like kind of an accelerator. I am just waiting for the mud to dry some before getting out and seeing what is going on in the fields.
ReplyDeleteIt's wet here also. I burn everything, if I burn a lot of softwood then I just make sure I clean the chimney a bit more often.
DeleteI burn literally anything wood. Even Pine, although I see why Sf doesn't burn it because it has to have just the right circumstances to be safe. I got three good sized trees and one HUGE old Oak down right now I need to start cutting on before they get too far gone.
ReplyDeleteNever ending process when you keep land and animals. Spent all day today Winterizing my bee hives.
I have lots to tidy up and log but that'll all have to be for next year now. I should have plenty to last this year though so not in a bad position but mainly due to my brother giving me some wood to make up for time spent at his!
DeleteNo worries, blogging for sure takes a back seat to work. ummm thats my story and I am sticking with it LOL.. Since my blog is woefully neglected these days due to work.
ReplyDeleteIts a never ending battle keeping the fallen trees off our fence! Keeps the wood stoves going though :O).
Yeah, shame we have to repair the fence though! The blog is suffering but I've done so many late nights lately it's tricky to keep up!
DeleteSometimes, you just have to operate on priorities.
ReplyDeleteYep, I think you're right there. I should slow down a bit in the new year when the baby comes.
DeleteHave been lurking here for ages - just need to say I find your blog really interesting and real. Thanks heaps Sir.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your kind comment. I try not to sugar coat it and tell it like it is. It's hard work but I love it.
