Am I Cruel To My Pregnant Wife?

I've been told that I'm cruel to my wife whenever she's pregnant and looking at the evidence I'm inclined to agree!
The first pregnancy (nearly four years ago. I made my wife move house when she was 8 months pregnant, three days before Christmas. She gave birth two weeks later to our first daughter, I still hear about that one.

The second pregancy I ripped out the living room as her maternity leave started, re plastered, laid an oak floor and fitted a new fire place.
To be fair it nearly killed me but we were finished two weeks before our second daughter was born.

This time I've destroyed the patio, started and not yet finished the porch and now ripped out the old boiler and replaced every radiator in the house. My cousin, Ian, has been here today helping me replace all the radiators ready for the new boiler which didn't turn up yesterday (don't use plumbnation if you want something to turn up on time).

Ian Fitting a new radiator upstairs
Tomorrow we're digging through the floor, under where the boiler used to be to allow access for pipes. So should be nice and quite for the wife to relax and  enjoy her pregnancy...
I'm not cruel just not very good at timing!
Hopefully the porch, heating and first section of the patio should be finished before baby number three turns up!

  3. I am sure she knows you just want to make the home nice for her and your children. Men never pick the right time to start a job, my hubby is the same.

    1. I'm terrible at picking the wrong time. To be fair I've had lots of jobs going on between all the children as well! Not sure I'll ever be finished.

  4. I think you are doing a fabulous job - my wife would be really impressed if I was as 'handy' as you are - keep up the great work Sir.

    1. It's a mixed blessing as although I can do most things it also means I'm reluctant to get anyone else other than family to help!

  6. As long as it's all finished two weeks before baby number three makes his or her appearance I guess that will be just about okay ;-)

    1. Yeah I think so, although I want heating long before that! The porch isn't as desperate but I still need it done before Christmas!

  7. When our first was about to be born I was advised to get my wife to make me a cup of tea because this would calm her! When, later, she felt it was time to head off to the hospital my bloody car wouldn't start, and she had to help push it (uphill). All very good character forming, but I still haven't heard the last of it.

    1. Just read this to my wife and we both laughed. Her births are so short I don't think there would be time for a breakdown! I bet you both lighted afterwards.

  8. I agree with Jaz@octoberfarm, you're just perfect. So have you got any heating at all right now then? We were without our boiler for a few days last week and although it wasn't that cold outside out we felt cold inside, must be psychological or something!

    1. No heating this weekend, the company I was getting the boiler through let me down massively. In fact we've had no heating other than the log burner in the living room so far this season. Luckily it's been mild but it would be nice to have a warm bathroom again! And as for perfect you only see the good stuff on here, I have many many faults!

    2. Many many faults. Ok, let's hear about them then....

    3. Too Many to list. The fact that I spend most nights in the workshop must be quite high on the list!

  9. On the plus side Kev, you do finish each project you start, one question why rip out the heating system in November?

    1. Unfortunately where I wanted to put the boiler I needed the new wall to be built before it could go in. Everything has just taken a bit longer than we thought really!

  10. Don't feel bad. When my first child was born, I was in the field at Fort Brag, and she had to drive herself to the hospital. They came and got me out in the bush and helicoptered me to Lejeune, from whence I drove to the hospital in a filthy field uniform and smelling to high heaven. How's that for lack of support ?

    1. Sounds a bit more extreme than mine! Also your entrance by helicopter would be a bit grander than mine!
