If it wasn't for the tractor and quad bike then it could have been a timeless scene from the English countryside.
Sorry the pictures aren't very good! |
As I was drenching the ewes the hunt came trotting by, exercising the dogs and taking the horses for a ride. We heard them long before we saw them, with horns blowing and dogs being called by name, luckily I already had the sheep penned in.
Are they romping willy nilly all over your land then Kev?
ReplyDeleteThis was dad's land where he's a tenant on the land. I've moved the sheep there for a month or so to fatten up.
DeleteIf your hunt is anything like ours then the hunt is populated by people who also spend a lot time drenching sheep and fixing fences. The old tale of it being just toffs is a complete crock!
ReplyDeleteThey don't get on with us though as we don't leave any foxes left to hunt!
They're all good people and know my father well, like you said most are farmers as well but it still makes me smile as they come past in their finery! They all do the sport for the love of horses and dogs and the chase. Of course there are no foxes involved now though.
DeleteThere were only ever 2 people actively involved in the Fox itself; The Master, and The Whipper in; all others were simply followers having a day out.
DeleteHow lovely to see this :-)
