Juggling Fields

Still trying to juggle the grass we've got left. I've had to keep the lambs longer than I thought as I've had no means to get them to the abattoir or to market.
So I've moved the lambs back to where the sheep were last month. Ideally I would have liked to leave it a little longer to let the grass grow back but they've got nothing left where they were. Trouble was I had to get the lambs through a field with the sheep in, I decided to shut them in the neighbours shed briefly and run the lambs past. It worked surprisingly well.
The lambs are better off near to the house as hopefully next week we can start to lessen their numbers, some killed for us and some sold at market. I managed to fit the tow bar on the van yesterday so there's no excuse now, just need a trailer!

  3. They all look in good form. That field seems to have plenty of grass.

  4. You probably feel as if you are ten steps behind yourself, Kev, but those sheep look good, and once you start filling your freezer with meat you will really start believing that you can feed your family. All you need now is a milking cow. We have two female calves here who will be needing a home in a few months. Shame we can't put one in the post for you!

    1. I think a milking cows might be a step too far at the moment! Also I can't drink milk so I wouldn't benifit too much!

  5. Those lambs are looking good. Ours are absolute rubbish but are booked in for the 12th October so will just have to do and we will cut our losses.

    1. What weight are they before you send them? I've got some that are a really good size. I try to kill at around 40kg really

  6. I envy you the safe meat! I grew up on a farm, but we now buy our meat at the store. On the Lord knows what all is in it.

    1. It is much safer and these are finished just on grass, they've not seen a concentrate.
