If A Tree Falls In The Woods...

It'll probably land on your bloody pile of gates!
Large branch out of the oak tree
It seems to happen every June or July, a big branch will fall out of one of the oak trees, there doesn't even have to a storm or anything. This one fell in the middle of a calm day so no telling when they'll drop!
Of course when it did it had to drop straight on the pile of gates that I'd brought and hadn't got around to hanging yet!
Only a few dents to the gates luckily.
Luckily nothing was damaged, just a few dents on the gates and some more firewood to saw up.
Where's the worst place you've had a tree fall?

  1. During a violent storm a tree fell across the 'drawbridge' to the house entrance. Five inches further either way it would have smashed into the house.

  2. my g**damn neighbor killed my big silver maple which i designed my back garden around. I haven't taken it down because it is hard to even get to it. it seems like every day a piece of it comes down on my table or patio. grrrrr....

    1. It's annoying when something like that happens out of your control - how did he kill it? I'm lucky as my brother is a professional tree climber and can sort things like that out for me!

  3. Falling branches destroyed my electric fence so many times (along with help from bears and wild hogs) that I finally just gave up and quit repairing it. There's a long trail down the mountain from the house to the road, and I can't tell you how many times I've started down only to have to go back and get tools to clear the trail of blow downs. But oak, now, that's some good firewood.

    1. It'll be good firewood but coming down in summer it'll take a little while to season. I've had to get my saw out on the country lanes here but generally people keep the tree by the roads pretty good.

  4. We had no electric for 10 days when a branch came down in storms several years ago

  5. One of the neighbors down the road had an old Maple fall over onto his brand new Suzuki trooper SUV thing last year. Squashed that little thing flatter than a harvested wheat field in Kansas. Only thing he could salvage from it were the tires.

I make it a point of removing any tree that looks like it might fall that is next to anything.

    1. I've been trying to do work to these old trees every year but the branch looked healthy from the outside! I know in future not to store things there - I did think that my pig arch was probably in a worse place but so far that's been fine!
