Early July Harvests

Things are picking up pace in the garden at the moment, lots of things are ready or nearly ready to harvest.
Lots of berries, potatoes and beans at the moment - all very healthy! There's raspberries as well but we always eat them in the garden!
Pretty sure the picture above is how I started out. Hulling gooseberries and currents was always a family job. I remember doing it as a child as a job to help, but I always remember my sister being so much faster than me at it (even though she's six years younger)!
There's lots of nasturtiums and marigolds growing as well which always makes the garden look nice and they bring their own set of benefits to the area as well. A bonus is they're all self set as well. I tend to plant some every few years to add to the gene pool but otherwise they're left to their own devices!

What are you eating out of the garden at the moment?

    1. I'm tempted to dry my currents. They're in the freezer for now as I haven't got time to process them properly at the moment! My tomatoes are a little way off yet :-(

    1. You need to do it harry! Get an area covered with plastic now so that they'll be no weeds next year when you start growing!

  4. What a harvest! The black round berries are? Elderberrie or mmm currant? The red ones are? Currant? We can't grow currans here, to warm, none are even rated for our zone. sighhh So I am just not even commenting on you getting raspberries ROFL :O), as I am still digging mine up and moving them in hopes to get some at some point :O). Though I am truly thinking its just to hot here for them.

The photo of your girls in the garden is super, you should frame that one. They are so cute and that is a very pretty garden photo with the flowers and all.

    1. They're black currents, elderberries are a way off yet (only just flowered around here). I have a good berry garden and try to make the most of it. I'm fairly sure I feed all the local birds as well because I don't net my fruit, just plant more than I need (that's the plan anyway!)

    1. We had peas this last week as well but I was unimpressed as they pods were a little stringy. Courgettes this weekend I think!

  8. Just about to pick our redcurrants. I shall make a setting juice for low pectin jams/jellies as I don't really like them as a fruit on their own. Your broad beans are in front of mine.
Love that you are growing children too.
