Burnout

Yesterday a busy few weeks (months really) and weekends caught up with me.

I'd had a headache all day and then it got to around 5 in the afternoon and I started to feel flu like, cold and shivery. When my wife got back I went to bed and got up again at 8.00 to help put the kids to bed feeling a little better, I then had my first night in front of the TV in months, like zombie!

I'm my own worst enemy sometimes and I know I do the same every year. With the light nights I stay out until 10.30 every night trying to get things done and we get up around 6.30, it makes for a long day. I've also been working Saturdays and Sundays to try and get through some of my paying jobs and catch up with my work, sometimes your body just lets you know when it's too much! And that's what it did last night, I crashed into bed and caught up on some much needed rest but this morning I feel great and ready to face the world again!

Will I learn from this?

Probably not!
Lets go again! Bring on 10.30!

  1. Glad you're OK Kev, I thought you might be sickening for flu or something. I know what you mean though, light nights and all that, too good to waste the time, winter's long enough!

    1. Cheers Leisha, I was surprised how quickly I felt better to be honest. Sometimes we all need to stop.

  4. It's just these long light days isn't it.

I find I'm out of bed early whizzing round doing all the jobs and then I come in for a coffee and breakfast and find it's still only 9ish, so once replenished I'm out and about again. It's great for getting the jobs done, but when you find yourself sitting down for tea at 9pm and then watching a bit of tele suddenly it's midnight and you're still sat there.

Like you, by weekend I feel like a zombie!!

    1. Sounds horrible! I'm no good in the mornings, never have been. I had a job where I had to commute an hour into work work and start at 7 for a year, I still didn't get used to it then!

  6. Take a break, guy. You don't need to be found face down in the weeds some day. You're too young.

  8. I'm always being told to slow down, but how can you rest when you look out of the window to see all that needs to be done?
If I gave any advice (meaning I am just about to) it is not to work yourself up about everything being perfect and "just so" now that IS tiring. Good enough will do.

    1. 5 scotch eggs would also mean I'd never need the toilet again! We've got season four to watch as we're so far behind with it!

  11. Retired here...thank heavens! Or so I thought. Now I have to wonder how I ever found time to work full time and raise seven children all 13, 14 and 15 months apart..and the last one when I thought I was finally done, five years apart. My body never warned me. Yep..I never learned..and now it's almost over! :) Take care and listen to your body..I think I just plugged my ears! Now I'm paying!!
