Amazing Tree House

Yesterday mum took us out for the day. It was the prefect day, a picnic by the river followed by a walk around a garden opened by the NGS at a large manor house. I'll do a post on the two and a half acre walled garden later, but needless to say it was amazing.
One great part was the tree house, This is the type of tree house that kids dream of. It's about 20ft up  a ladder and then a really quick slide back down.
I was really surprised as both the girls loved being up there, I thought they might be scared of how high it was, but not at all!

The eldest going down the slide

Me and the youngest up the tree!

Lovely swing at the bottom
I've now got to scout out my trees and decide which one is best to build a tree house in. The children are a bit young yet but no harm in planning! My brother and me used to have an amazing one in a couple of yew trees, in reality it was just a few planks up a tree but in our mind it was a pirate ship, a castle and a fortress! We used to love being up there and mum used to give us a few biscuits to take up with us in a tin that we used to guard before eating them! Dave loved climbing trees so much he even took it up as a job!

Did you have a tree house as a child?

  1. No tree house, but we too loved climbing trees, which growing up in a village in Somerset was our play ground. Your girls will love you even more if you build them a tree house. I built mine tents inside and out to play in.

    1. I think they're a bit young yet and I want to get my moneys worth out of the Wendy house yet!

  2. We built one for the children here when we moved 34 years ago. It is still there, covered in ivy and only safe for the birds that nest in it and the occasional chicken that goes broody in secret up there.

    1. It'll be great if they help build it as well. Things like that are the type of things they'll remember forever.

  4. No tree house but we used to climb trees when we were younger. Lots younger! I sadly noticed that 'our' best trees had been cut down recently, a huge shame as we used to spend hours up there.

    1. I hate it when a favourite tree gets cut down. We had some fields down by the river and I remember when they coppiced the other side of the bank. I knew it needed doing but I felt I'd been punched in the stomach, it opened it up so much it no longer felt like my favourite place.

    1. Forts are good to! Me and my brother would make a fort out of bales and then fight with sticks. Well we still do....
