This Years Grafts Looking Good

It's still too early to see what has taken and what hasn't, but early signs are looking good for this years apple trees.

There's over hundred and fifty trees in this section and most have new growth on the grafted on scion wood. Long furrows seems the perfect plot for them and all this rain lately has helped keep them looking healthy.
Who else did any grafting this year and how are your trees looking?

  1. They're looking really good Kev, brilliant job. Mine on the other hand are showing no signs of life at all yet....Never mind, as you say, keep trying, maybe I'll get it right next time! (they weren't actually on rootstocks though, just on a couple of branches of another tree so maybe that's the problem).

    1. Maybe you could try budding in the summer. If you remind me in august I'll have a go as well.

  2. no trees here they all seem to be diseased, ugly, leylandii or a fallen over willow tree.

The tree surgeon said for us to replant laurel trees as there are nests in our leylandii and I hate to think I am to evict little families.

    1. We've got plenty of nest around here, they seem to love the hedges and tightly packed leaves.

  3. You must work like a dog, Kev. Just looking at the new things you get done each week makes me tired, and I have to go sit on the porch with a cold drink to recover!

    1. Thanks Harry. I always think I need to work harder to get it all done. I am getting better though as I'm using more machinery to make the job a little easier. It's pretty constant but ive got the energy.

  4. My mini Orchard is looking good and my little woodland is all coming along, the only thing I have taken cuttings off if the blackcurrant, there are a few old apple trees here that have lots of blossom but seriously need some TLC this autumn :-)

  5. If the old apples aren't what you want we can graft them over to something else next winter! No old apple trees here, had to start from scratch.
