Stir Crazy

My time as a stay at home dad has been pretty much positive since I started, but there are times when it's been harder than others. The last couple of weeks have been tough.
My eldest has been poorly all week
My youngest was ill all last week with a sickness bug and then my eldest caught it this week. It's been a nasty bug, with them struggling to keep a glass of water down at times, but they're both on the mend now.
We've been largely confined to the house, the furthest I've gone is to feed the chickens or collect in the firewood from the shed. Being at home full time doesn't bother me but not being able to do much outside does. I a lot of need time outside to function and although I've spent most evenings in the shed it's been tough to be so confined, plus the worry of looking after my two girls and wondering if I'm doing things right. I don't think I've ever given out so many cuddles in such a short period before!
Hopefully both much better today and a trip to the library planned as a treat (and possibly the builders merchants)!
Does anyone else get stir crazy if they're confined to the house for a length of time?

  1. Yes! I don't think I'm working unless I do something outside.
Housework is boring and doesn't count as work

    2. I was even behind on the housework as the girls aanted cuddles all the time. Its tough for them as they don't understand whats going on.

  2. I am with you there, I am outside for at least an hour every day walking Ben. Like me he gets cabin fever if we miss or even curtail a walk, and he loves mooching round the garden with me.

    1. A dog is on my list to get. A good way to have to go outside no matter what the weather.

    1. I just need to be outside. Feels weird to be inside too much.

  4. I feel like Crocodile Dundee if I go to the city. You need to find a play group and meet other parents and get some time for yourself in your shed.

    1. We normally go to two playgroups a week so I have plenty of gossip time. Just this week she's been ill.

  5. Cuddles are the best healer.
Yup, I get stir crazy indoors. Over winter , when the weather is really cold , we spend so much time indoors that we get cabin fever. We are champing at the bit by the time spring arrives.

  6. Yo can come over and shovel my snow? LOL Here we call it cabin fever. Hang in there Kev, parenting has its challenges but if done right, and you seem headed down the right path, the rewards are bound to be in-mensurable.

  7. Can't say I do get stir crazy unless there is something that needs doing and I can't do it. I am happy inside or outside because when I am in either it is usually being dictated to me by terms I cannot control like deep snow or something.

I am usually wishing outside sources would just leave me alone so those rare three day snow ins or something are a delight.

    1. I do enjoy most of my outdoor chores. Although by the end of the summer I'm normally desperate for things to die off so I can have a few easier evenings!

  8. To answer your question....yes...but our cottage is tiny
I have always wanted a large home with draughty halls and rooms you can hide away in....

    1. Our house isn't very big either. I grew up in quite a large farm house with a landing and hall way bigger than some two beds I've built. Mind you I struggle to keep our little place somewhere near clean!

  9. I remember the days of being stuck inside with poorly little ones. They go through stages of picking up anything and everything. They are so unwell and worry you half to death and then a couple of days later they are bouncing off the ceiling. Thank goodness they are so resilient.
