How do you know your nettle soft fruit garden has got too many weeds?
When your arm looks like this after half an hours weeding!
Think I need to wear a long sleeves shirt next time. I'm must be used to it though as it I could barely feel them stinging (hence why it happened so much) and just had a warm sensation in my arms afterwards.
Anyone else used to nettle stings?
I wish I had some, supposed to be s wonderful herb. The sting is said to stimulate the nervous system for pain relief. ...
ReplyDeleteI use them for making a compost tea and we have nettle soup a couple of times a year but ghey spread everywhere and take some controlling
DeleteI've just had to buy my Lovely Hubby a long sleeved top to wear when he's strimming as his arms are still a mess three weeks after getting stung and splattered with nettle and hogweed sap. He's on steroid creams now from the doctors and it's still slow to heal.
ReplyDeleteTake care with yours. xx
I should imagine that it was more to do with the hog weed, that's meant to be some nasty stuff. The stings were go the by the morning.
DeleteOuch. If they were stinging and itchy then dock leaf sap rubbed on is the answer, at least that's what we've always used, but I expect you know about dock leaves already.
ReplyDeleteYeah we use doxk leaves here. In fact ev got stung this afternoon, didn't cry but told me about it and then went and got a dock leaf and did it her self. For a two and a half year old I was quite impressed!
DeleteI have gotten into them several times by accident usually and it is something that you don't soon forget. They don't seem to grow here though.
ReplyDeleteThis country sure can grow weeds. Nettles and docks grow everywhere thats untended in no time at all.
Deleteyes long sleeves would help, prevention is better.
ReplyDeleteNettles are rampant over in the Alpaca field, we mowed them down the other week they were nearly 3ft tall, they are all coming up again.
You have taught your daughter well :-)
The Romans in Britain used to whack themselves with nettles after a bath to warm up!
