I'm always short of space in the greenhouse and I needed some staging.
With my wife's maternity leave nearly over and me going full time daddy soon we're trying not to spend too much money, so I decided to improvise.
My dad is a tipical farmer and has a field full of junk "stuff". Some useful and some not. A while back he did buy a job lot of shelving, this falls inthe useful catagorgy. One section of this cut in half makes some free staging for me.
It might not be too pretty but it does the job.
It's already pretty much full but it's doing the job. Maybe one day I'll get round to making some nice wooden staging but until then this will do. Lately I've been trying to look at things we need and seeing what will do in their place that doesn't cost any money, anyone else have some good re purposed items?
Everything gets 'repurposed' here. Spanners are used as hammers, pliers as spanners and drop forged Chef's knives as can openers.

DeleteWe use old metal tractor wheel rims to grow carrots in the polytunnel.
ReplyDeleteSound like good raised beds. I used to grow carrots in pots before we had all this space. They were a small round variety (Paris market I think) and they were lovely.
DeleteIf you tip your shelves/staging up side down, will the shelves hold water? Then you can stand pots in rather than on and water them.

They are. Does that make much difference to the seedlings?
Deletealso ignore if they are full of bolt holes so the water will run out!

Taking a trip up dads field is mad. There's just so much atuff up there.
DeleteI have made shelves in my temporary kitchen out of planks of old wood, two tree stumps, and some empty jam jars. The system hasn't tumbled down .... as yet, ......!

DeleteIn my garden, Sometime I prefer to something that more useful than beautiful. Functional is much better than beauty. You have do a good job
