Everything seems really far ahead this year - except me!
I've hardly started in the garden and I'm already about two weeks behind!
On the bright side my hawthorn hedge seems to be coming to life. All the buds are breaking on these trees that little bit earlier due to their "mini greenhouse" rabbit guards.
Is everyone else already playing catch up with the season or is it just me? I plan to plant a lot of seeds over the next week or so!
I gave up trying to catch up years ago. Now I just try to keep plugging along in the right direction. If I don't have any setbacks, I figure that it's been a GOOD day! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think you're right with that one! So long as I keep moving forward thats the main thing!
DeleteWe got a lot done this last week on our smallholding. Polytunnel constructed and half full of containers with newly sowed crops. Early potatoes planted yesterday outside. More hard surface (concrete slats) paving today. Supposed to be gales later in the week. It's always one step forwards one step backwards when you have a vegetable plot.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed by how much you've done! I need to get the ground sorted to start with potatoes and peas. I did manage to put down a path over some mud the other day but it's only a temporary measure!
DeleteI too am a bit behind but only because I am still waiting for winter , still sure springs not really here if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean! There are still some things that never even lost all their leaves! Thats why this week has taken me by surprise so much!
DeleteI'm way behind, as usual.
ReplyDeleteBut the planning permission application has only just gone in for the polytunnel, I have no-where warm for seeds to germinate and nowhere with any protection to plant them out and keep them safe from rabbits if they did start to grow. So I've decided not to panic to let be what will be and do what I can.
Lovely to see your hedge springing to life :-)
It's a nightmare that first year in a new place! I brought one of those cheap plastic standing greenhouses just to keep things going and it worked well for a year or two before it fell over.
DeleteI did consider this but with the wind on our hillside I don't think it would stand, even if tethered carefully. I might get one and try attaching it to the end of the shed.
DeleteI screwed ours to the house in the end to keep it standing.
DeleteCatching up? If the snow EVER melts we'll be so behind we'll never catch up!
ReplyDeleteJane x
I feel for you! That must be terrible know how much you've got to do and not being able to even see the soil!
DeleteEveryone is slow this year
ReplyDeleteOur flower show judge states that most things will be a month late this year
So in actual fact you are two weeks ahead!
It certainly doesn't feel like it! I've so many trees to graft its not even funny!
DeleteDon't even start me on it. I think I am a month behind. but some where I read "fog in March, means Frost in May". seeing the amount of fog we had last week maybe it is good I am behind and will keep it all in the green house the best I can. I cant believe it is nearly the end of March already.
ReplyDeleteThere will be plenty of chances for a frost yet. We're in a really bad area for it because we're at the bottom of a valley. I'm sure it will be just when all the blossom is on the trees!
