Loo With A View

The estate where I've been working on Saturdays has the most amazing toilet for the workers!
A loo with a view
There's no door, but then as you sit on it and look out, there's no one who can see you.
A view across the orchard

I just love this view! Now where's the paper?
I love this toilet for all its rustic charm (never thought I'd love a toilet).
Now if only I could convince my wife to let me build a compost toilet in the garden with no door on it, I'd be on to something...

  1. Is this desire of yours to poo in public due to some childhood experience?

    1. No it happened in my twenties after a camping trip that involved a branch that broke in half (that I was sitting on - thats sitting) but I'll tell you that one another time!

    1. Ah but it's noto like it's at the back of a pub! You could see for miles and not see a soul!

  3. D. built an outside loo on the side of the utility room. It faces away from the gate to the road and I often sit there watching the birds going in and out of the bird boxes on the barn. Only drawback is when if the chickens find me and stand in a crowd looking at me.
I would love a composting toilet, but D. is not enamoured

    1. Well it beats having a two year old stare at you while you try to "go"! The chickens always love to see whats going on don't they!

  4. In days of old when knights were bold and the toilet not yet invented,
they dropped their load by the road and went away contented.

    1. I've got a great picture of a composting loo I used last year - its a good idea and good compost I think but my wife is unconvinced!

  6. Years ago when we used to camp on very quiet sites we would put the toilet tent so we could have a loo with a view.
We've often thought about a compost loo too.

    1. A compost loo just makes sense really but people don't understand them and so they're put off

  7. Also want an outside compost toilet, but I think I would put on the door with the option of not closing it...I could see someone walking or riding by if I was sitting on it.. (my luck!)...

    1. I think I'd have the door on as well or it could be a bit breezy on some days!

  8. Here we just have a hole in a plank so that is one very posh outhouse!

    1. Does the hole in a plank lead to anywhere!?! I did a green working course once and a lady there was making a stool much like the one I had made and then a couple of hours from the end she cut a hole in it. No questions needed asking!

  9. When we first moved out to the farm one of my first jobs was constructing outhouses. We were growing cucumbers and needed portable facilities for the workers. Dad insisted in fast construction methods. This resulted in a rough splintery hole. During one of my rambles along the river bank I found a wooden toilet seat. I brought it home for my outhouse. This brought me quite a bit of praise from the workers. No more splinters in the bum! I was the hero of outhouse construction for the season.
