Had a blast from the past today as I topped the "caravan field" at my mum and dads whilst waiting for some timber to arrive. This little old tractor is the first tractor I can remember driving and she's still going strong.
The caravan field is a little 5 van caravan site my mum and dad have on their farm in a small field. It was originally an old damson orchard with plenty of perry pear trees chucked in for good measure. In fact when I think about it there are perry pear trees all over the farm - someone in the past must have liked a drink of it!
They have some good tires on that tractor, never heard of perry pear in Virginia.

ReplyDeletePerry is only made with perry pears, pear cider can be made with pears and is really nice. I've never made any but I'm guessing it's made in much the same way as cider
DeleteOld tractors just never die do they, they just sit there waiting for someone with an oil can to come along and fire them up again.
ReplyDeletePerry pears just to grow all over our last place, our pigs used to love eating the windfalls.
They use this tractor quite a bit, which is surpricing when you see the size of all his other tractors. This one is quite small, but that means it can fit in all the small spaces!

ReplyDeleteIt's not my tractor I'm afraid. And it's not running on orginal parts. Years ago dad changed the engine for one off a compressor!

ReplyDeleteIn Shropshire (I lived there briefly), it was traditional to pay their 'rates' with Damson money. The county is awash with them.
I've heard of this before and would like to know more. Mum and dads farm is on the Shropshire/Herefordshire boarder and there are loads of damson trees around the place.
