I Beg Your Pardon,

I never promised you a herb garden!
Bargain Herbs
I've been looking out at car boot sales for lots of herbs so I can plant up a herb garden at the front of our house, but we found them just as cheap at a garden centre today. They were buy one get one free, which worked out at 75p for a good sized plant.
We went mad and bought 6 rosemary plants, 4 different thymes, Lemon Verben, a Curry plant, a gold veined sage and a pot of chives. Not bad for just over £10.
Now I need to sort out the area I'm going to plant them in, the trouble is this means digging up some large roots from an old rose bush and other shrubs so lot of work involved. It should make a nice herb boarder when it's done and make the front of the house look nicer.

  1. I love herbs as hedges. We have to bring our roesemary indoor for the winter so no chance for hedges. Your herbs look nice and healthy!

    1. I plan to use the rosemary as a low hedge, I'll probably take some cuttings from these and try to gain a few extra plants as well! I want to make a lavander boarder on the one side as well (probably going lto pinch some cuttings from my mothers today for that). I have lost some herbs on cold winters though, but normally they're alright.

    1. Most are, although we had a really cold winter the year before last (minus 20) and I lost quite a few. The sage is a funny one, some years they all live, other years they don't. I try to take cuttings every few years so at least I have some back up plants (I'll start doing this again as we were'nt quite so organised with moving house). Not sure how the curry plant will do thoush as I've never grown one of these before.

  3. Don't forget Lavender is a herb too, makes the most tasty shortbread biscuits and sponges. An easy way to use it is to pop a flower head or two into some Caster Sugar.

A lovely haul for £10 well done.
